Marilyn J Fontaine (b. 1967) Marilyn J Fontaine (b. 1967) is an East London-based mixed-media artist who creates magical, intense narratives with mystical and cultural overtones.
Fontaine’s creative practice is rooted in memory and storytelling, which she uses to convey the lived experiences of communities and cultures. Through both personal and collective narratives, she explores themes of identity, heritage, ritual, and interconnectedness — to one another and to something greater. Her work often carries an intense, juxtaposed, and ironic edge, blending strong cultural references with an ethereal aesthetic. Deeply connected to nature, ritual, and the human experience, Fontaine’s practice becomes a reflective space that engages with human values, belonging, and transformation. Currently, she is working with audio, film, and large-scale paintings, while also developing socially engaged, interactive workshops and exhibitions. These projects foster dialogue, participation, and reflection — creating space for shared experiences and cultural exchange. Whether through documentary, visual art, or community-based work, Fontaine’s storytelling seeks to resonate deeply, challenge perceptions, and invite meaningful connection.
